Probably a stupid question to ask on a Vareo Forum, but here's the dilemma - do I buy a Feva or a Vareo?
I am 60kgs, a reasonably competent sailor, & will almost always be sailing solo (We have a double hander but my "crew" isn't always available!.
I have (some years ago) sailed a Laser Radial & want something with more possibilities downwind. The Vareo is the obvious choice, but at 60kgs I don't want to be contactly de-powering .... hence the thought I may be better suited to a Feva.
Are there any lightweights on here? Or anyone who has experience of both Vareo and Feva?
Thank you :o)

keen as I am on the vareo, I think 60kg is on the light side, you would defintely need a storm sail. Can you get a trial somewhere? Depending where you live RS I think can do a trial at Burghfield. I have seen the feva being sailed solo, I think with mainsail & genniker it would perform well as a mini vareo.

Thanks Rick - that was my fear ~ all the photos / videos on line have been of blokes, or ladies of a certain build!
I'm not afraid of turning a boat over, but once you've been in and recovered a boat a few times, got cold / tired, your sailing session tends to be cut a tad short.
I thought I'd get some advice from RS direct but so far they've not responded to my email enquiry - which is kind of odd as I'm looking to spend money on their products ~ I haven't generally found dinghy enthusiasts to be so backward in coming forward!!!!
I'm afraid I'm up in North yorkshire, so Burghfield is a drag - but do-able before laying out any money!

Where abouts in North Yorkshire are you? If your fairly close to Harrogate there is an RS dealer between Harrogate and Ripley. I've heard good things about him from LDC (unsurprisingly), but you may be able to arrange a test sail with him / buy your boat there.

Pod - thanks for the reminder re local RS dealer - I know Mike from many years ago when I used to sail at the YDSC & I've been in touch. He is indeed a very helpful guy. I've decided to go for the Feva (sorry to all you Vareo fans). A friend (overseas) has a Vareo & raves about it, but when I pushed, it turns out he's never flown the gennaker!!!! I'd rather buy a boat on which I have some hope of flying the gennaker, rather than only using half the sails or spending lots of time swimming.... and of course, a smaller sail plan gives more opportunity to sail in a bit of a blow ~ which is part of the fun, surely?
Thanks again chaps - looks like this is goodbye to the forum from me!
Keep 'em white side down! :o)
